The Airbus A220 was originally developed by Bombardier and had two years in service as the Bombardier CSeries. The A220 family complements the A319neo in the Airbus range and competes with Boeing 737 MAX 7, as well as the smaller four-abreast Embraer E195 E2 and E190-E2. There are two main variants of the A220 family: the A220-300 and the shorter-fuselage A220-100 that share 99% commonality and use the same family of engines, enabling operators to fly both versions at significant cost savings.

To date, a total of 925 A220s have been ordered of which 405 have been delivered. The global A220 fleet has completed more than 1.5 million flights over 2.55 million block hours, transporting more than 100 million passengers,
